Langedijk: Kingdom of a Thousand Islands

It is very probable that the municipality Langedijk got its name from the long water barrier that ran from Sint-Pancras to beyond Oudkarspel. The Langedijk area is also sometimes referred to as ‘The Kingdom of the Thousand Islands’. The land was mainly used for arable farming and livestock cultivation. In Langedijk, the nature and recreation area of Geestmerambacht is known, among other things, for the Indian Summer festival, which is organized once a year.
