“Kaaskoppenstad”, or Alkmaar is 15 minutes by car from Oudkarspel. Alkmaar is not only known for its cheese market and football club AZ, but has several old buildings that have existed since the 16th century, such as the Town Hall and the Excise Tower on the Bierkade.
